You may ask - what motivated me to come attend the ECOSOC Youth Forum?
Myanmar, or Burma is a country that has long been at conflict with itself since the late 1940s. It is a place where long bloody battles between warlords in the country ruin the landscapess and ecosystems.
Recently, because of the change in government, the last three years of infighting has now intensified and spread across the entire nation. As the fighting grew, so has the brutality of the war; lethal bombings were deployed more frequently, innocent casualties skyrocketing across the country, and many people were crippled, unable to work or provide for their families.
Hidden inside the clouds of politics and war, tens of thousands of powerless children are stranded at orphanages. Some are children that were abandoned by their parents, reducing the costs of feeding one more mouth in the family, others orphans lost their parents in the conflicts, leaving them no one to rely on. No one to support them.
In a time of such national unrest, orphanages around the country are barely keeping up with the costs of food and maintenance, let alone provide proper education to our youths.
This is unimaginably disastrous to the progress needed for recovering Myanmar in the future years. If nothing is done, tens of thousands of orphans will soon join society without proper education and experiences.
